"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back May the sunshine warm your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields.."
Obituary of Bernice Sturak
Bernice Sturak went home to her loving Father on February 19, 2026.
Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Bernice was the daughter of the late William (Lukaszonas) Luke and Stella Mietlowski. She grew up in the Niagara Falls area and later raised her family in Cambria. In her later years, she divided her time between Western New York and Florida, enjoying the warmth and sunshine while always remaining rooted in the Western New York community she called home. An avid traveler, Bernice embraced every opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories. During her time in Florida, she generously volunteered with Hospice and Habitat for Humanity, continuing her lifelong commitment to serving others.
On July 29, 1957, she married the late George Sturak. Together they welcomed four children.
Bernice was a proud charter member of the Barge Canal Optimist Club of Lockport, a community service organization dedicated to bringing out the best in children. She also served her community through her work as a civil service employee for Niagara County, from which she later retired. Her dedication to service and generous spirit are lasting gifts to others.
Bernice will be remembered for her bright smile, her love for her family, and the joy she found in spending time with her grandchildren. She celebrated her Polish heritage and passed on many traditions to her family. She cherished gatherings with friends and family and was known to enjoy a good Old Fashioned on the rocks, especially while spending time and sharing stories with her brother. Bernice’s legacy of family, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Wendy Herman. Bernice is survived by her brother, Ronald Luke; her children, Cheryl (Tim Dorr), Bill (Vicki) Sturak, and Patti Jo Sturak; and her son-in-law, Lucas Herman. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Tim, Tyler, and Eric Dorr; Austin and Grace (Nate Addenbrooke) Herman; and Bill and Brandon Sturak. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren: Joseph, Julian, and Guy Dorr, and Adeline Addenbrooke.
Calling hours will be held at Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home in Lockport on Wednesday, February 25th, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barge Canal Optimist Club of Lockport, P.O. Box 665, Lockport, NY 14094.

Wendy, so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a great lady! Wishing you peace and strength now and in the days ahead.
