Friends may call Monday, March 4, from 4-7 at the Taylor & Reynolds Funeral Home,70 Niagara Street.  Viewing and Service Tuesday, March 5, at Christ Community Church 140 Genesee Street, from 10-12pm-viewing and service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment at Cold Springs cemetery.

Obituary of Richard Cheatham

Richard Cheatham age 85 passed away peacefully February 27, 2024 following a long illness. He was born June 13, 1938 in Brewton Alabama. He was the son of the late Roosevelt and Daisy Cheatham. Richard was married to the late Elizabeth Wright.

He was survived by his sons Richard E (Amy) and Ruben (Dalphne) of Lockport. He had one son predeceased Jerry Harris of California. Richard is the grandfather of Kayla (Dominick) Ball, Jaret, Jaron, Toree, Katlyn and Ruben. He is also a great-grandfather.

Richard is the beloved brother of the late Roosevelt “Jr.” Randolph ”Randy”, Barbara Jo ”BJ” Pate and Annie Smith. He leaves three brothers Ruben (Lola) of Niagara Falls, Carl “Butch” (Mary) and Ronald “Ronnie” (Renee) all of Lockport. He also leaves three sisters Rosie (Johnny) Mixon, Flora (Kenny) Hawkins of Lockport and Daisy (Marc) Houston of Atlanta Georgia. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins.  Richard worked and retired from General Motors. He also worked at Mount View Hospital for ten years.

He graduated from Lockport High. He loved sports, the Yankees, basketball, football and the horses. Richard loved life, family and his friends. He treasured talking about his upbringing in Lockport. He had a great memory. He loved telling jokes. Richard spirit was always top level even when he was going through his challenging situation. He loved everybody and everybody loved him. Richard will truly be missed!

    my deep felt condolences to all the family and all who loved him which is many .richard will deeply missed and never forgotten ..fly high with the angels rich …maybe you can tell them a joke or two ..love you

    We are deeply saddened by the passing of Big Richard! What a funny and great guy he was. I grew with The Cheathams. Great Family! Our thoughts and prayers are with Big Richard and the Family. He will be greatly missed!
