Conley, Sr. Richard was a graduate of DeSales Catholic and served four years in the United States Navy where he was a jet mechanic. Throughout his life he worked for his brother’s company, Conley Motor Express, as a crane operator for Simon’s Steel, and drove dump trucks for Brigham Concrete and his son at American Concrete where he still holds the record for most loads in one day.

Better known as “Dick” or “Beef” he was a lifetime member at Ship 110 at the Navy Marine Club in Lockport where he served as Commander for many years. He loved to share stories of his time in the Navy with his grandchildren, keep sharp with crosswords and watch old western movies again and again. One could often find him out to get the morning paper or at breakfast with friends.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Margaret “Peg” Just. Predeceased by sisters, Burnetta (Eddie) Killion, Anna Louise (Fred) Wolf and Pat (Dick) Mahar; and four brothers, Leo (Rosemary) Conley, Jim (Elma) Conley, Robert (Mary Lou) Conley and John Conley.

Mr. Conley was a wonderful neighbor. We had many conversations which I always enjoyed. A great person I’m happy to have had the pleasure to know.

My regards to the family of the last of the Conely Octet which was a driving force of the Northenders for 85 years. I trust you all are at peace with his demise after a long and fruitful life. I’m in NC for the winter so I will not be at Mass, but there will be a memoriae sent from here. There is little out-door skating these days, so I guess there should be a plaque at the Chestnut facility to those boys who help start the hockey tradition in Lockport!
