Obituary of Walter Eick

Walter Eick entered peacefully into eternal rest on March 11, 2025. Born on June 21, 1946 in Lockport, NY, he was the son of Donald and Helen (Bridgeman) Eick.

After graduating from Barker High School and spending time at Ithaca College, Wally went on to work in his family’s business, Bridgeman Oil. He then continued in the oil business as a dispatcher, first with Gaude Oil and then with Drum Oil and Propane, until his retirement. He developed many lifelong friendships with his co-workers and customers throughout his career.

Wally was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Buffalo Bills. He loved finding new and interesting recipes for Donna to cook for the family for holiday dinners. If he knew someone was going to be alone for the holidays, they were pulling up a chair and enjoying those recipes with his family.

Wally spent the last 39 years and 11 months being not only a student, but a teacher, mentor, and friend to hundreds of people in both the United States and Canada, and always from a humble place of love and tolerance. He was a kind and comforting smile, a compassionate ear, a wealth of knowledge, a calm voice in the storm for so many, and a dedicated friend of Bill W.

His shoes will be impossible to fill. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. If Wally touched your life in any way, or he helped you through a time in your life that you thought was insurmountable, our family’s wish is that you be that person for someone else. Pay forward his love and kindness. Remember him with a smile. Pass that smile along to someone who needs it.

Wally was pre-deceased by his parents, Don and Helen Eick, as well as his in-laws who adored him, Don and Elsa (Ciarfella) Fink. Survived by his loving family Donna (Fink) Eick, Mandy (Matt Reed) Sandolfini, Greg (Suzi) Eick, and Meghan Eick. Cherished Papa to his six grandchildren Jamie Sandolfini Jr., Brenton Sandolfini, Selenah Roman, Isaac Roman, Faith Eick, Jacquelyn Eick, and two great grandchildren Silas Roman and Aylah Townsend. Beloved big brother to Nancy (Noel) Labbe, Barb (René) Blais, and Donna (Jeff) LaHaye, as well as several nieces and nephews. His passing has also left an ache in the heart of countless people that were lucky enough to call him friend.

Friends and family may call from 12-4 on Sunday at Taylor and Reynolds Funeral Home, 70 Niagara Street, Lockport, with a brief service immediately following. Dinner and fellowship in celebration of Wally’s life will follow at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue, Lockport. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name be made to Save the Michaels, an organization dear to him, or the Upstate New York American Diabetes Association.
